Hello,

a little bit about me:

Karen Cavassani obtained her Master and Doctoral degrees from the School of Medicine of Ribeirao Preto, University of São Paulo.  In 2006, she began a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan where she elucidated both innate and adaptive immune mechanisms contributing to the immune dysfunction apparent during and after septic syndrome.  Key highlights of her work include demonstrating a novel role for toll like receptor 3 (TLR3) in sepsis as well as the major role that T regulatory cells play in immune suppression after recovery from sepsis.  In 2012, as Research Investigator at the University of Michigan, her projects were focused on epigenetic alterations that modulate the immune dysregulation in sepsis.  After 7 years at University of Michigan, Dr Cavassani moved to Los Angeles and assumed a Project Scientist position at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she now specializes in immuno-oncology in prostate cancer.  Over the course of her academic career to date, Dr Cavassani has published 48 peer-reviewed manuscript in national and international journals including primary authorships in the Journal of Experimental Medicine and Blood, which are highly cited manuscripts.  Dr. Cavassani has mentored numerous graduate students and undergrads and she presently serves as reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed journals. Finally, Dr. Cavassani provides scientific, editorial, and mentorship support for researchers at all stages in their careers (Click in services for details)
